The information is already on the web, but finding it is harder than it should be and there is no pressure for authors of competing pages to work together to produce a single compound resource. Typically the information required is spread across many pages, all of which must be found and read.

1. Provide an index of web pages that makes it easy to find pages relating to a particular piece of hardware
2. Provide an incentive to merge web pages by having the URL of one appear first in the list. If the author of the second page wishes to be listed first, they must either: a) make their page better than the other, which would be grounds for re-ordering the list, or b) merge their page with the other so that both authors are listed first
